About

Mirco Bergamasco

My name is Mirco Bergamasco. I played rugby at the highest level throughout my career: 89 caps for Italy, three World Cups, two Top 14 championship titles with Stade Français. I’m also the only Italian to have worn the national jersey in XV, VII and XIII.

Through all those years, I faced pressure, doubt, and breaking points — without ever having mental support. I had to build, on my own, the tools that I now know would have changed a great deal if someone had given them to me earlier.

That experience is what led me into mental performance coaching. I trained (DU Préparateur Mental – Interventions et aide à la performance from Université Clermont Auvergne, Pôle Mental & Performance certification, DE JEPS, DES JEPS, Master’s in Human Performance and Sport Pedagogy) to turn that lived experience into a method, and I still coach on the field today, which keeps me connected to the concrete realities of high-level sport.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does mental performance coaching involve?

Structured work on mental skills (focus, pressure management, confidence, emotional regulation) — treated with the same rigor as technical or physical training.

Do you need to wait until you have a problem or a block before working with a mental performance coach?

Not at all. While it’s very effective for overcoming a period of doubt, a block, or a dip in form, mental performance work is above all a proactive process. Just as with physical training, you don’t wait to get injured before building strength: mental preparation is for anyone who wants to optimize their potential, gain consistency, and approach their goals with clarity and method.

Is mental performance coaching only for professional athletes?

Not at all. While essential in elite sport, mental performance work is for all athletes, amateur or professional, as well as team staff and business leaders. Whenever you have goals to reach, decisions to make under pressure, or routines to structure, the approach adapts to your situation.

Do sessions take place by video call or in person?

One-on-one work with athletes and executives mainly takes place by video call, offering great flexibility and regular follow-up wherever you are. In-person sessions are also available, particularly for team workshops, staff follow-up, or on specific request.

How does mental performance work help during injury or a dip in form?

Injury or a drop in form are pivotal moments where the mind is put to the test. This support helps maintain motivation, work on mental imagery during time out, manage the anxiety linked to returning to play, and approach the comeback with renewed confidence.

What are your rates?

Every program is built to your goals and format. Get in touch to receive a tailored proposal.

Is everything confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a basic principle of the coaching relationship.

How do I get started?

A first, no-commitment conversation to understand your situation and see if it’s a good fit.

Do you need to have played my exact sport to be my mental coach?

No, it is not essential. In fact, assuming you understand an athlete simply “because you played their sport” is a limitation: it risks creating preconceptions and personal projections. My job is not to give you technical or tactical advice (your coach is already there for that), but to unlock your mental and emotional processes. What truly makes the difference is deep listening and the ability to tune into your actual sensations, building a tailored program crafted entirely around you.
